The Black List: November 2009

November 17, 2009

Yeah yeah.  I like reducing & reusing.  I also love magazines full of new and clean things despite the conspicuous consumption.  (We’re all conflicted.)  Here are five items I’m especially coveting in the fall dreariness, driven by their great advertising, marketing and general design brilliance.  Short of the actual items, I wouldn't mind selling them, writing on their behalf or pushing the stories associated with them.  While there’s a green theme running through all of these, I’m not sure that conspicuous coveting is a worthwhile trait.  Yet, you’re here peeking at these items too so you feel where I'm coming from.  In any case, the black list:

  1. The Johnson Woolen Mills Long Shirt.  I’m pretty sure they make this thing in black. So clean.  So practical.

2. A Dautramont Cycles Commuter.  I wish I had a photo of this but I don’t...this is the model I'm working off of.  Think clean lines and elegant.  It doesn’t exist yet.  This is a special new project here at Press Forward and it will be more rad than BMX racing in the 80s.  It will also be black.  Stay tuned.

3. The Nike Air Max Dream.  I like its blackness.  It’s boldness and its Nike-ness.  You can wear them with a suit, with jeans.  There are few places that these shoes don't work.    Is there any company that has it’s business tighter than the big swoosh.  (Answer: not likely.)

4.      The Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket.  Again with the black- the sleek and the functional like crazy.  I’m into it. Way into it.

5. The Wikon from Wustof.  Man’s gotta eat.  To eat, a man’s gotta cut.  I love food.  I love cooking. These along with their respective Butcher Block set and I'm inside all day taking apart bits and pieces of leftover garden bits.
