Five Reasons Steinbock Racing is Getting It Right.

December 3, 2009

In the small corner of the endurance racing universe, cross country skiing got more legit this year.  The three-man Steinbock racing team is changing the way domestic racing works.  By limiting their team to a three-man elite program of high performing people, these guys are ensuring the most bang for the buck and the most progress for skiing.  Here’s why:

1.  Diverse and complimentary team members.  Andrew Johnson, Chris Cook & Zack Simons make up the group.  Here’s what they say about themselves: Three men. A combined 12 years of National Team experience. 3 Winter Olympics. 5 National Championship Titles.  2 NCAA Championship titles. Over 75 World Cup starts. And a win in virtually every major ski race in America.

Steinbock is a force to be reckoned with.

2. Clean lines.  Authentic message.  These guys know skiing and connect to the rest of the sport.  They’re website is well designed and they have a good identity for the team setting themselves apart from sterile lycra clad race organizations.

3. More bang for the buck.  The elite ski world is an educated and well off demographic.  Tie a brand into Steinbock and you tie into the heart of the scene.  No print ad, online campaign or marketing tool can get as good a result for the dollar.  Steinbocks virtual presence is the best online space an endurance team has put together and its complimented by a thorough and well wrought social media directive.

4. The right amount of serious.  If Nordic skiing has a problem, it is that it’s too severe, too earnest.  These guys bring a bit of humor.  Check out their blog posts and twitter space for more.

5. Social consciousness.  Before they built a self indulgent racing program, they hosted a rollerski race to raise climate awareness.  They love the game, they love the scene and in building their program, they are building up Nordic skiing in this country.
